FORMER England one-day international Vince Wells is to play for Whitstable in the Shepherd Neame Kent League next summer.

The ex-Kent, Leicestershire and Durham all-rounder announced his retirement from the first-class game last month and has moved back to Kent to pursue business interests.

Wells, 38, is presenting living in Whitstable and admitted that was a big factor why he chose the Belmont club.

He has previously played in the Kent League for both Chestfield and St Lawrence.

Wells, a former pupil of the Sir William Nottidge School, (now the Community College, Whitstable), explained: "Durham have kept hold of my registration so possibly I could play a bit of cricket for them and if that is the case I need to playing at a reasonable level."

Whitstable publicity officer Steve Holness said: “Vince will be a major asset and just having him in the dressing room will have a knock on affect on the rest of the players.”
