FORMER Gillingham boss Peter Taylor has been sacked by Crystal Palace.

A brief statement on the club's website said his contract had been terminated with immediate effect.

The sacking ends weeks of speculation about the 54-year-old’s future at Selhurst Park following the club’s stuttering start to the season.

After beginning the campaign in impressive fashion with a 4-1 victory at Southampton, Palace have subsequently recorded just one Championship win.

They currently languish in 19th spot with just ten points from ten games, and Saturday’s drab 1-1 draw with Taylor’s former club Hull was the latest in a series of sterile performances which proved the final straw for chairman Simon Jordan.

His one season in charge of the Gills - 1999-2000 - saw the club promoted to Division 1 for the first time in their history after a 3-2 victory over Wigan at Wembley in a play-off final.
