FORMER Gillingham striker Darius Henderson played a major part in securing his current club Watford's promotion to the Premiership on Sunday.

The Hornets beat Leeds United 3-0 at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium in the Championship play-off final.

The 24-year-old scored their third goal with a calmly taken penalty after Shaun Derry had brough down Watford's danger man Marlon King in the box.

Henderson scored nine goals during his 17-month spell at Priestfield after joining the club from Reading in January 2004.
