RAMSGATE have offered former Gillingham youngster Michael Phillips a contract at Southwood.
The 24-year-old midfielder was forced to quit full-time football at Priestfield three years ago after a long battle against injury, and joined the Rams on loan from Crawley last month .
Rams boss Jim Ward has done his homework on Maidstone-based Phillips, speaking to former Gills boss Peter Taylor and assistant manager Steve Butler.
He said: "We have offered Michael a contract, and are in negotiations at the moment. He’s a nice lad, who has fitted in very well.
"He played 90 minutes at Worthing last week, but was out on his feet at the end. He is my sort of player, wants to play and join in. I think he’s enjoying it here. He is the right age, a good player and could be a real find for Ramsgate."
Rams have also put in a seven-day approach for Margate striker Danny Dolton, and hope to complete the signing this week.
Meanwhile Ward has allowed Shane Suter and Gavin Shultz to join Ryman League Division 1 side Chatham on a month’s loan.
