FA Trophy third qualifying round preview

Welling United manager Adrian Pennock has warned the club’s fans not to put any extra pressure on the team ahead of their FA Trophy tie at Basingstoke Town on Saturday.

The Wings beat Lewes 2-1 in a top-of-the-table clash at Park View Road at the weekend. But they missed out on the chance to go top of Nationwide Conference South on Tuesday night when Saturday's opponents held them to a 2-2 draw.

But Welling will have been heartened by their recovery after finding themselves two goals down inside nine minutes and will travel with confidence.

Steve Perkins (calf) is fit while Adrian Clarke (groin) could return. Lee Gledhill’s hamstring injury is responding well to treatment but James Pinnock is a further month away from being fit. Matt Carruthers is suspended.

Folkestone Invicta travel to meet Harlow Town in the same competition.

Harlow play in the Southern League Division 1 East and Invicta will be hoping to be in the hat for Monday's draw for the first round proper.

Should Saturday's tie be drawn, the replay will be at the Buzzlines Stadium on Monday night rather than the sceduled Ryman League Premier Division clash against Slough Town.

Tonbridge Angels will be looking to continue a successful season of cup exploits when they host East Thurrock United, who are ninth in the Ryman League Premier Division.

Having reached the FA Cup third qualifying round and outplayed two higher league opponents in Fisher Athletic and Cheshunt in recent weeks, player-manager Tony Dolby is in a positive frame of mind.

He said: "We’ve beaten Cheshunt in this competition so there’s no reason we can’t do the same thing against Thurrock. At home this season we’ve been strong and always look like scoring so we go into the game full of confidence."

Tonbridge’s only slight worry involves a hamstring problem for striker Leroy Huggins, while left back Jon Heath will return to the side after completing a three-match suspension.

The winners of the tie will receive £3,000.

Sittingbourne boss Steve Lovell says he side will take heart from their midweek performance against Gravesend, despite a 4-0 defeat in the Kent Senior Cup.

The Brickies entertain Cambridge City at Bourne Park on Saturday.

Lovell said: "[Gravesend] scored four but we did all right considering the strength of their team. It will give the players a lift and shows them the level they need to reach to play in the higher divisions.

"Hopefully, it will also help us before playing Cambridge City on Saturday in the FA Trophy."

Completing the Kent representatives on Saturday are Dartford, who face a daunting home tie against AFC Wimbledon, and Cray Wanderers, who host fellow Ryman League Division 1 side Kingstonian at Hayes Lane.
