Missing Gillingham striker Delroy Facey spent Wednesday in talks with a rival League 2 club.
Gillingham Manager Mark Stimson finally met Facey at the end of last week and was able to inform him of interest from other clubs.
Last week Stimson told the Medway Messenger how he, the assistant manager, the chairman and the physio had all unsuccessfully tried to contact the striker.
“Delroy informed me that he had changed his mobile but had not let anyone know,” said Stimson.
“He’s in talks with another Division 2 club and so we’re waiting to hear now. It’s possible that he will leave and there are one or two clubs interested.
“If he leaves then that will release some more money. I would be surprised if he is here at the start of the season but I’ve said to him that we’re professional and if he’s better than the players we have here then he can play.
“Delroy is a great lad and his attitude is good but I expect more from him than what he sets himself. He is physically strong but I expect more from him. He’s not from Gillingham and he has a child up north and you have to be happy when you close the front door in the morning.”
Facey was not given a squad number when the club released their list earlier on Wednesday and looks set to depart.
