Rain denied Kent their second LV= County Championship Division 2 win of the summer on Saturday.

Gloucestershire went into the final day at Canterbury on the brink of defeat at 307-9 - 92 runs short of their target.

But rain hit the Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence 10 minutes before play and didn't stop, with umpires Neil Bainton and David Millns abandoning the match at 3pm.

Gloucester's Gareth Roderick had taken the game into the final day by hitting 152 not out after the visitors were set 399 for victory.

Centuries from Darren Stevens (126) and Ben Harmison (106) saw Kent to a first innings total of 474 all out.

The pair shared a stand of 133 for the fifth wicket after Rob Key had hit 53.

Captains James Tredwell and Michael Klinger kept the rain-affected match alive with two quick declarations - Gloucester 80-0 and Kent 4-0 - to set up a chase.

Kent took control by reducing the visitors to 41-4 before lunch on day three, helped by two wickets for Charlie Shreck.

The reply stood at 138-6 when Roderick and Tom Smith came together.

They added 109 to frustrate Kent before two more wickets for Shreck left Tredwell's men on the verge of victory overnight.

Kent collected seven points from the draw, with Gloucestershire claiming five.
