The inaugural Kent School Games reach their climax in Canterbury this weekend.
The Games have been led jointly by Kent County Council’s communities directorate and children’s education directorate and developed through a partnership involving specialist sports colleges.
To date, an estimated 25,000-30,000 have participated in 400 separate competitions embracing 14 different sports plus nine disability sports.
A total of 350 to 400 schools have been involved since Dame Kelly Holmes opened the event at Ashford’s Julie Rose Stadium.
The bulk of the events take place this weekend with Friday’s mini-basketball (years 5-6) at the University of Kent, Canterbury, boys and girls football at UKC, golf (years 3-4) at Canterbury High School and boys and girls mini hockey at Polo Farm.
On Saturday, there will be basketball (years 7,8,10) at UKC, boys and girls (Under-13 and 15) tennis at UKC, girls football (years 7-8) at UKC, athletics (year 7) at Canterbury High School, boys and girls volleyball at Canterbury High, boys and girls swimming at Kingmead Leisure Centre, boys and girls table tennis at Kingsmead plus boys and girls hockey (year 9-10) at Polo Farm.
On Sunday, July 6, Polo Farm hosts Kwik Cricket for years five and six.
