First half display enough for Park

Westcombe Park 27 Henley 24

WESTCOMBE PARK survived a spirited second-half fightback to secure a narrow 27-24 win over Henley in National League 2 on Saturday.

Park started strongly and quickly opened up a 10-3 lead after tries from Graeme Frith and Adam Slade.

The visitors only first-half points came from a Danny Wells penalty.

The home side still had time to extend their lead before the break when Frith added his second try and James Whittingham converted.

In the second-half, Henley scored a converted try before Whittingham kicked a penalty for the home side.

Westcombe continued to push forward and Craig DeClerk added another try which Whittingham converted to give them a 27-10 lead.

Henley refused to give up and a converted try reduced the deficit to 10 points.

The away side then converted a penalty try, but Park held out for maximum points.
