NEITHER side has been able to find a breakthrough in the opening period at Priestfield this afternoon.

Gary Mulligan, making his 50th appearance for the club, almost gave the Gills the lead on 12 minutes but his shot was well saved by Crewe keeper Ben Williams.

Romain Larrieu then saved brilliantly at full length to deny Neil Cox after he had let fly from the edge of the box.

Crewe's Rodney Jack should have broken the deadlock when he was left with only Larrieu to beat, but he seemed to lack confidence and the Gills keeper was able to make a comfortable save.

Michael Higdon then fired another good opportunity over the bar.

Gillingham: Larrieu, Southall, Sancho, Johnson, Jackman, Bentley, Crofts, Flynn, Spiller, Mulligan McDonald.
Subs Not Used: Cox, Chorley, Pugh, Collin, Ndumbu-Nsungu.
