Hornchurch 0 Welling 5
THREE first half goals set Welling United on their way to an impressive 5-0 win away at Hornchurch in the Nationwide Conference South on Saturday.
It was one-way traffic in the first half and the visitors took the lead on 27 minutes when new signing Martin Carthy, who the Wings have taken on a two-month loan from Grays, volleyed into the net after a goalmouth scramble.
Danny Slatter, who was outstanding all afternoon, doubled the lead 10 minutes later after a good move involving Paul Booth and Chris Bourne and Booth made it three on the stroke of half-time after rounding the keeper.
The second half continued in much the same way although it took Welling until the 75th minute to score their fourth.
The Hornchurch keeper made a good save but in doing so dropped the ball on the by-line and Bourne was able to nip in and roll the ball into an empty net.
The rout was completed two minutes later when Jamie Day’s corner was glanced in by an unmarked Booth.
The home side were desperately disappointing and failed to muster a shot on goal in the whole game. On clear-cut chances alone, the score could have easily been much more.
Attendance: 525.
