Fleet hit by late equaliser

Ebbsfleet 1 Woking 1

Ebbsfleet United's slim hopes of reaching the Blue Square Premier play-offs are all but over after they were held to a 1-1 draw against Woking at Stonebridge Road on Saturday.

Ebbsfleet started the game brightly and came close to opening the scoring after 10 minutes when Michael Bostwick raced onto a pass from Stacy Long, before firing a long range shot just wide.

Woking had chances of their own and on 14 minutes Fleet keeper Lance Cronin had to be at his best to keep out Marvin Morgan's effort, after the striker cut in from the left wing and saw his shot palmed away by the England C team international.

On the half hour mark, Chris McPhee latched onto long ball forward from Darius Charles before turning and hitting a powerful shot which Woking keeper Ross Worner did well to tip over.

In the second half, both teams struggled to get going with Fleet's George Purcell registering the first shot on target after 66 minutes.

His shot was deflected off Lorraine and went into the hands of Worner.

Purcell was in the thick of the action again just three minutes later when his shot from inside the area was well saved by Worner.

The game's opening goal came in the 73rd minute when Fleet were awarded a free-kick for a foul on Chris McPhee.

Long stepped up and curled a brilliant free-kick round the Woking wall and into the bottom right corner.

Just when it looked like Fleet would take all three points, the home side were dealt a cruel blow deep inside stoppage time when Woking substitute Giuseppe Sole beat the offside trap and slotted the ball past Cronin.

Ebbsfleet United: Cronin, Ricketts, Hawkins, Opinel, McPhee, Bostwick, Barrett (Hearn), Long, Purcell, Moore.

Subs not used: Mott, Smith, Nade, Bull.

Attendance: 1,175
