Ebbsfleet United 4 Stevenage Borough 0

Ebbsfleet United recorded their first home win of the season by securing a comfortable 4-0 victory over Stevenage at Stonebridge Road on Saturday.

Fleet were dealt an early blow when winger Ricky Shakes was forced to withdraw with what appeared to be an ankle injury after 13 minutes.

The home side started strongly and took the lead on 19 minutes. Stacy Long's corner was punched clear by Stevenage keeper Alan Bayes - but the ball fell to Neil Barrett on the edge of the area and he hit a perfectly struck half-volley which flew into the top left corner.

Fleet continued to push forward and doubled their lead in first half injury-time when Craig Stone saw his shot diverted home by substitute John Akinde - who back-heeled the ball into the bottom left corner.

In the second half, Stevenage’s best chance came on 66 minutes when Mitchell Cole found himself in space on the left before cutting in and forcing a fine save out of Lance Cronin.

Fleet were awarded a penalty just two minutes later when Ronnie Henry hauled down Akinde inside the area. Luke Moore stepped up to fire an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner to take his tally to three goals in four games.

Liam Daish’s side made sure of the points on 84 minutes when Akinde squared the ball for substitute Kezie Ibe - who was left with the simple task of tapping home from close range.
