CHARLTON Athletic are going back on the road to bring fun, frolics and five-a-side football to Kent over the next six weeks.
The Addicks are continuing their work across the county by laying on no fewer than 14 free events for young people during their Summer Slam season.
Hundreds of people already travel to Charlton matches from dozens of pick-up points across Kent courtesy of the successful Valley Express coach service initiative, while the Premiership club’s community scheme works in schools across the county.
Now youngsters can take advantage of the Summer Slam which, in partnership with Kent County Council (KCC), will provide children with a free day of entertainment.
Charlton community liaison manager Ben Tegg said: "It’s great to be running another initiative with our partners Kent County Council. The Summer Slam provides a fun day for young people that’s actually free.
"We are aware that young people need things to do in the summer and that there is a great deal of pressure on parents financially to provide entertainment, so we hope this helps a bit."
The 2005 Summer Slam is the third year in a row the event has been organised by the club.
The activities begin on Tuesday, July 26, at Shepway Rec in Maidstone and continue for 14 dates across the county until the end of August.
Children can come along for free and take part in football on a huge inflatable pitch, complete with an inflatable goal. There will also be face painting and a fire engine to help show children the importance of fire safety.
Hundreds of free tickets for the two pre-season friendlies against Feyenoord and AEK Athens will be available to win in competitions and every child will receive a free Charlton goodie bag.
Sir Sandy Bruce-Lockhart, leader of KCC, said: "We feel strongly about offering activities and projects for the young people of Kent to encourage a sense of belonging.
"I am pleased with our continued partnership with Charlton Athletic."
