Ford: Form book no guide in Trophy

THERE has been plenty of talk around the ground and in the dressing room of our Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy clash against Warwickshire at Edgbaston this week.

It certainly is a very important day in our season and a great chance for the Spitfires to show that we can produce some high-quality one-day cricket.

So far this season we have stuttered our way through our limited overs fixtures; at times we have been really good, but we have also lacked consistency.

But as the C&G is a knock-out event our previous form and that of Warwickshire counts for nothing, all that matters is that we produce really good cricket throughout Friday's 100 overs.

It would have been nice to have the advantage of playing at home as beating the Bears at Edgbaston is always a mighty task, but our memories of a really good championship win there a month ago will undoubtedly give us a psychological boost.

The summer really is flashing by and it is hard to believe we have already enjoyed three months of competition.

The hectic nature of the game over here in England really gives the players very little opportunity to re-charge their batteries and recover from the heavy physical demands.

The winter months of preparation work with the squad and our fitness advisor Glen Ewen has really paid off though as we've limited our problems to just a few minor niggles with happily no serious injury to report.

The second half of the season will be the really testing time for our players, both mentally and physically, and I'm hoping that the few aches and pains that have cropped up over the last few days won't impact our season or our C&G selection this week.
