Welling boss Andy Ford has turned his attention to the club's youth set-up during pre-season.

The Wings manager has placed first-team coach Keith Lovett in charge of their FA Youth Cup preliminary round tie against Wealdstone in September.

The aim is to merge the cream of the talent at their disposal, from their PASE scheme run at Lewisham College and from the youth teams of Welling and Corinthian last season.

Many of the team that plays in the FA Youth Cup are also expected to be involved in the club's new reserve team which will play in Division 2 of the Kent League this season.

Ford said: "It's something that the club hasn't got and it needs to be in place.

"It might not start to show until Christmas time but it could prove to be a tremedous back-up to have those players coming through.

"They could catch everyone by surprise and it's something that we have been working on."
