Ford: Key would be an Ashes asset

FORD FOCUS: Graham Ford

ROB KEY and David Fulton really achieved something special when batting the entire final day of our match against Hampshire to score a big hundred apiece.

That is a good performance no matter what the opposition but it becomes a fantastic one when you consider that the great Shane Warne bowled 32 of the overs in our second innings.

Seldom does 'Warnie' bowl that many overs on a dry, turning pitch without success and 'Keysie' and 'Fults' showed a great deal of mental and technical strength to pass an extremely severe test.

I have mentioned a couple of times this year that 'Keysie' is a really good player of spin bowling and his performance against Warne confirmed my views.

The England selectors are smiling about the batting talent available for the national team, but surely they have to consider 'Keysie's' talents very seriously for the Ashes series.

I have a feeling that Warne is quietly hoping that the England selectors overlook Rob’s claims.
