Welling boss Andy Ford has completed the signing of Chippenham centre-back Matthew McEntegart on a one-year deal.
McEntegart, a left-footed defender who was previously with Forest Green, will be seen by many as the straight replacement in the squad for fans' favourite Chris Moore.
Ford confirmed: "Matthew is big and strong but also a bit of a rough diamond. He is the type of centre-half that we haven't got in the squad - he loves a battle and he'll be a great addition to the club."
It brings the number of centre-backs at Welling to four with McEntegart competing alongside Tony Sinclair, Graeme Andrews and Frankie Chappell for a starting berth, although Chappell is banned for the season opener at Bath on August 9.
Ford, whose side went down 2-1 at AFC Hornchurch on Tuesday night, has been boosted by the return to training of Orlando Smith after a knee injury while striker Joe Healy is set to return for this Saturday's home match with Maidstone after being away on holiday.
