IN MY two years as director of cricket the one thing that has always impressed me with the Kent guys is that they show great character.
This squad have taken knocks in that time, as they did at The Riverside in losing to Durham earlier this month, but they've shown an ability to forget the blows, get stuck in and really work hard to recover from such defeats.
They did that again with an absolutely brilliant win over Glamorgan. The way they put things right was really special.
It is pleasing for me to see that our one-day cricket is starting to show signs of improvement.
Rob Key co-ordinates that thinking and makes sure the information is shared in the best possible way and he takes great credit for that, but he also has a few experienced lieutenants in the team, too.
With our bowling, much sharper fielding and aggressive batting, we're starting to look quite an exciting unit.
I never like to think that we have a defining period of a campaign coming up. I learnt from my first summer here that it's such a long season, so to start looking at little segments is dangerous.
I prefer to think we have to be ready all the time, not dropping our guard once and trying to make sure every game is as important as the last.
I'm not getting too caught up in our leadership of the Friends Provident Trophy conference either, we have played some top sides and the guys deserve some credit for some good performances, but we can't get carried away.
We have some momentum going our way right now in one-day cricket. We must try and grow that momentum from here on if we are to really succeed.
