OPENING batsman David Fulton has admitted to having a tear in his eye as he took the field on the first day of Kent's final county championship match of the season.

The former skipper top scored with 155 as Kent reached 353 for three, with Matthew Walker also reaching three figures by the close.

Fulton said: "Getting the opportunity to play meant the world to me. I so wanted this opportunity to play what might transpire to be my last game at home.

"I won’t pretend otherwise, it has been an emotional day for me and I’ll admit there was a tear in my eye when I walked down the stairs from the dressing rooms to go out and bat.

"I told myself not to be so soft and to battle through it and I hope that with a ton I’ve gone some way to repaying the faith people have shown in me.

"It was nice to play with a bit of freedom and I really enjoyed it but, if this is to be my last game, it will be a great way to go out."
