MARGATE slipped to a fourth consecutive away defeat in the Nationwide Conference at Stevenage on Saturday.

Just moments after Gate striker Phil Collins had squandered a glorious chance to make it 2-2, Stevenage substitute Kirk Jackson converted Simon Wormull's cross to put the game beyond recall.

Stevenage had installed Wayne Turner as boss after sacking Paul Fairclough in the week and his side gave him the dream start with a goal inside three minutes.

Jude Stirling, on loan from Luton, sent an enormous throw into the Gate penalty area, and with the visiting defence at sixes and sevens, Jean-Michel Sigere volleyed home from six yards.

Steventage increased their lead on 57 minutes when substitute Kirk Jackson, a half time replacem ent for the injured Stirling, pulled Adrian ClarkeÕs ball back across thebox and Sigere bundled home.

Within four minutes the Gate had grabbed a lifeline as Terry McFlynn and Nick Roddis split the home defence with some slick passing and Roddis ran through to slot home.

But with the match in its dying throes Stevenage midfielder Wormull centred deep to the far post and sub Jackson headed home to wrap up the points.
