Fourth straight defeat for Westcombe

Westcombe Park suffered a fourth straight National League 2 defeat after conceding a late try at Waterloo.

The scores were level at 17-17 going into the final minutes before home captain Jason Duffy ran over the winning try.

Combe had made a good start to the game and were 17 points ahead after the first half hour.

Tom Carruthers grounded Combe’s first try from a rolling maul and James Whittingham kicked over the conversion.

Minutes later Jaco Du Toit intercepted a pass and ran over try number two which was also converted and a Whittingham penalty put the visitors well in front.

Waterloo responded just before the break with their own converted try with Duffy weaving his way to the line.

A penalty for Waterloo made it 17-10 and Combe’s chances of getting back into the game were thwarted by a post as Whittingham crashed a penalty against the woodwork.

Another try for the home side levelled it up and with 74 minutes gone Duffy again deceived the defence and went over the line.
