MARK SAUNDERS’ versatility will be tested once again on Saturday when he plays at right-back for Gillingham at home to Sheffield Wednesday.
With Nyron Nosworthy suspended and deputy Mark Patterson injured, Saunders is favourite to fill the right-back berth with Paul Shaw returning from illness to replace him in midfield.
Player-manager Andy Hessenthaler is certain to opt for Saunders rather than Kevin James as Nosworthy’s replacement. James could figure in midfield or alternatively, David Perpetuini may be pushed forward with Roland Edge returning at left-back.
The Gills boss has also hinted at a formation change in what has been labelled a must-win game against opponents who have won just twice this season - against Bradford and Sheffield United - and have yet to win on the road.
