FORMER Kent captain David Fulton said goodbye to his infamous yellow Ford Fiesta and signed off from his benefit year at a Christmas lunch.
The dining room of the Ramada Resort Hotel in Hollingbourne, near Maidstone, was packed to the gunnels for Fulton’s last stand, the final fund-raising event of his benefit season.
After a slap-up Christmas lunch, supporters were treated to a bundle of belly laughs during the speech from Welsh comedian Rod Woodwood.
Former England skipper Chris Cowdrey then held an auction of sporting memorabilia in aid of the Fulton benefit coffers, with top-billing for the souped-up yellow Fiesta.
Through something of a flashy old banger, the car had been indelibly autographed by some of the world’s top players and included bottles of Champagne and whiskey, signed shirts an autographed golf bag three signed photographs, including a signed print of Sir Garry Sobers, and Fulton’s complete Spitfires one-day kit.
The lot went for £4,750 while a holiday for two to Morocco fetched £3,200 among the other items for sale.
Fulton, who retired from the game in October, will share half the proceeds of benefit year with the Samantha Dickson Brain Tumor Trust and the Ridge View Special School near Tonbridge.
