MARGATE take on Hayes at the Homelands stadium at Ashford on Saturday hoping for better luck than they had at Cambridge City on Monday.
Gate dominated that match and created a succession of chances which they either missed, or had blocked, more by luck than intention, by the home defence.
Gottskalksson did not make a save until the 56th minute, and had little else to do apart from picking the ball out of the net when defensive failings presented Cambridge with their two goals.
The first came in the 20th minute when, on a wet surface, Bill Edwards slipped in chasing a long ball forward by City’s Richard Scott, leaving John Stevenson to score from close range, although even then the goalkeeper got his hands to the shot.
Gate almost fell further behind just after the interval when Lee Chaffey, who was dangerous on the City left all afternoon, first put a centre across the face of the goal, then went through himself and shot against the bar.
But they were deservedly level in the 55th minute when full-back Green exchanged passes with Pat Gradley and shot low into the corner of the net.
However, 15 minutes from time Chaffey’s deep cross was headed back by Del Binns for Stevenson to glance home his second.
