Margate 2 Forest Green 0
MARGATE recorded a much-needed victory over fellow strugglers Forest Green in the Nationwide Conference at the Hoverspeed Stadium on Sunday.
Two second half goals earned them only their third home league win of the campaign in front of just 255 spectators.
Forest Green were the better side in the first half but most of their shots were from distance and caused keeper Phil Smith few problems.
Margate almost broke the deadlock when Adrian Clarke's shot hit the post and Darren Watson netted the rebound, but the effort was ruled out for offisde.
The home side's opening goal three minutes into the second half proved to be the turning point. Rovers failed to clear a cross and Jay Saunders half-volleyed the ball into the net from eight yards.
They doubled their lead when Sam Sodje's 40 yard run took him past four players. He then found Clarke whose cross was headed home by Jake Leberl.
