Gate lose close battle

Doncaster 3 Margate 1

MARGATE suffered their fifth defeat in six games, losing at Conference play-off contenders Doncaster on Tuesday night.

However, as against Yeovil on Saturday, they battled hard against another full time outfit, and came close to snatching a point.

Chris Kinnear’s side were without John Keister and Terry McFlynn, both on international duty, and ran out at Belle Vue, just an hour after stepping off the train from London.

They were 2-0 down inside the first half hour. Jason Blunt (15) scored the first, and league top scorer Paul Barnes added the second (27) from fully 30 yards

Jean Michel-Sigere then reduced the arrears after 75 minutes, scoring for the second game running.

He then had a second another goal-bound chance blocked, only for Barnes to score the third six minutes from time.

Margate are on their travels again on Saturday when they visit Hereford.
