MARGATE pulled off a fine 3-1 victory against Dagenham & Redbridge in the Conference Cup at Ashford last night.

Goals from Moses Jjunju, Ross Smith and Adrian Clarke sealed a place in the last 16 at the expense of their Nationwide Conference opponents.

But the win, against a team 25 places above them in the leagues, could have come at a cost for Chris Kinnear's side.

The team has been ravaged by injuries in recent weeks and the manager revealed that Greg Oates asked to come off at half-time and had to be told that Gate had no substitutes who could come on and Peter Benevides was limping for much of the second half.

But Kinnear was keen to praise the spirit of his injury-hit squad.
