Gate's Cup tie moves to Ashford's ground

JAY SAUNDERS: snatched injury time equaliser
JAY SAUNDERS: snatched injury time equaliser

MARGATE have made a last-minute switch of venue for tonight's FA Cup, fourth qualifying round, replay against Grays.

A statement from the club said: "We will now be playing the game at Ashford Town. This has been forced on us because Dover were unwilling to make their ground available because no agreement has been signed for the rest of the season and they would not agree a one-off match fee.

The statement adds: "We had already explained that we couldn't agree anything long-term until we had met with the Conference this week, but this appears to be unacceptable to them."

The match kicks off at 7.45pm. The winners of the tie will be at home to Aldershot in the first round proper on Saturday, November 8.

Gate will be looking this evening to maintain the momentum that saw them stage a late comeback in Saturday's 3-3 draw against Grays.

Grays went 2-0 ahead through two goals by Leroy Griffiths, before Adrian Clarke pulled one back with a penalty in first half injury time.

Margate looked brighter after the break, but a third goal for Grays from Freddie Eastwood appeared to put the game out of reach.

But, with two minutes left, Darren Watson headed home from Clarke’s corner and, deep into injury time, Jay Saunders grabbed the equaliser.
