Adam Gemili set a season's best for the 100m despite having to race twice in quick succession at the Ostrava Golden Spike meeting in the Czech Republic.
Dartford ace Gemili was up against Asafa Powell - who pipped him to victory in the first round of the London 2012 Olympics - aswell as veteran Kim Collins, up-and-coming US star Mike Rodgers and Frenchman Jimmy Vicault in a strong field on Thursday night.
However despite Gemili and Powell blazing to the finish line at the first attempt, the result did not stand due to a faulty start.
The runners were given 15 minutes to recover before the race was re-run, with the 19-year-old being pipped to a top-three finish by Powell (10.06), Collins (10.08) and Rodgers (10.16), despite running a season's best of 10.19.
Gemili said: “It was certainly an experience. The whole meeting was great, but unfortunately with the race itself we ran the full distance and finished the race, Asafa even started celebrating, but they said ‘come back, it was a false start. You’ve got 10 or 15 minutes to get ready and we’re going to run it again.’ I was like ohhh.”
The Olympic semi-finalist added: “I train very hard in the winter – not for scenarios like this, but it helps. The fitness I’ve gained during the winter enables me to be able to go out there and run a time like I did 10 minutes after I raced like that.
“The time was a bit slower, but then so was Asafa’s time. And it was still a season's best. You could see the fitness in a lot of other people. Some people weren’t as fit to be able to do that.”
Gemili is preparing to travel to Finland for the European under-23 champs in Tampere from July 10-14.

The 17-year-old from Orpington then stormed to victory in 11.38 in the final, the second fastest time by a European under-20 this year, and four hundredths ahead of France's Stella Akakpo with German Annika Drazek third in 11.81.
Asher-Smith is preparing for the European Junior Championships in Rieti, Italy, from July 18-21.
