Gillingham and Reading shared precious few chances in the first half of the New Year's Day clash.

The Gills' best effort came in the 29th minute when Nicky Southall's speculative free-kick was caught by the wind and just went over the Reading crossbar.

At the other end, the home defence kept Reading quiet and Steve Banks was not called into action once.
