GIANT striker Peter Crouch shoved “freak” chants back down the throats of Gillingham fans as he grabbed the winning goal in Norwich’s 2-1 victory at Priestfield on Tuesday night.
The 6ft 7in player, on loan from Premiership side Aston Villa, used his incredibly long legs to good effect prodding home from close range after some excellent work from Kevin Harper on 65 minutes.
Gillingham had started brightly and Marlon King missed a glorious opportunity in the fourth minute, before John Hills went close from fully 40-yards with a thunderous free kick.
The deadlock was broken in the 28th minute when Damien Francis fired through a crowd of players from the edge of the area.
Gills responded well and equalised 12 minutes later when Rod Wallace beat keeper Robert Green to a high ball and King was on hand to neatly half volley into the empty net.
The home side’s second half performance was less impressive, despite Paul Smith making his first appearance of the season and Norwich got the winner they deserved.
