Gillingham’s patience in the transfer market is set to be rewarded with a new signing.

Boss Martin Allen revealed the club are on the verge of completing a deal today (Monday) after watching pre-season victories at Faversham and Ashford on Saturday.

He’s been impressed with Amine Linganzi since the midfielder signed from Accrington and is confident the expected new arrival will be equally as good.

Allen said: “Linganzi looks like a door, doesn’t he! Massive.

“We should have another signing on Monday morning. That’ll be good as well, so it’s starting to come together.

“We’re all being patient and waiting and I’m sure the supporters are the same as me, waiting for other players and new players to sign.Mr Scally’s been doing his bit and he might have delivered again.”

Allen may also take a chance on former Charlton youth team striker Tom Derry, who looked bright in the 2-1 victory against Ashford.

Allen said: He scores goals and is a good player and he’s only 18, so we’ll have to weigh that one up when I have a chat with the chairman.

“It’s sometimes good to take a gamble on those types of players.”

Gillingham are set to step up their pre-season preparations this week, including a training ground match against AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday.

A scheduled friendly at Chatham on Saturday has been postponed so Gills will fit in another behind-closed-doors game while the rest of the squad will travel to Bromley.

Allen said: “It’s going to be tough but they can manage it.

“Mental fitness, mental strength, physical strength, tactical, technical. All that work will start this week.”
