Gillingham manager Mark Stimson has received a setback in his attempts to lure Brentford midfielder Glenn Poole to the club.
The League 2 leaders rejected an offer for the 28-year-old from the Gills at the weekend and Bees manager Andy Scott insists he would be unwilling to let the player join a promotion rival.
Poole, who was a key player for Stimson during his time at Grays, was Brentford’s top scorer last season but has recently lost his place in the side to former Bromley player Sam Wood.
Speaking to the Richmond & Twickenham Times Scott said: “I’m not prepared to let any of my players go to one of our promotion rivals at this stage of the season.
“We are in a position where we neither need to let any of our players go or want to. Glenn doesn’t want to go, but I can understand he just wants to play football.
“Unfortunately the lads have been playing well, but his chance will come.”
Poole was an unused sub on the bench for Brentford on Tuesday night at Grimsby and he hasn’t started a game since January 10.
