MARK STIMSON has expressed his interest in bringing our-of-favour Southend midfielder Kevin Maher to the club.
The Gillingham manager wants to add experience to his side and feels the 31-year-old will be an ideal addition to the squad.
“I am interested in him,” said Stimson. “He’s someone I know and have played with and he’s a good football player. He’s won this league and the one below and has been involved in winning teams. He’s tasted relegation and so has had a taste of it all.
“It’s something we might try and do in the next 24, 48 hours. He’s someone I would like to bring into the club because he’s an experienced player who has good composure and he’s not frightened to get on the ball and play. That’s the way out for us.
“You need a player who has tasted it and is up for it. That’s the two most important ingredients and Kevin is up for it because I do speak to him and see him quite regularly, because he uses the same gym; he goes to work out and I go to eat burgers!”
