MARK STIMSON is hoping Gillingham's 1-0 victory over Huddersfield on Saturday will persuade a few more fans to get behind him.
Before the victory at Priestfield, Gillingham had gone seven without victory and Stimson knows he has to work hard to get all the fans back on his side.
“We needed a victory to calm a few people down,” he said. “At the moment it’s fifty-fifty. Fifty per cent with me and fifty against.
“I understand that and it was important for me that we got a nice win in front of them.
“It was important that the fans got a win here at Priestfield, so next week when we come up against Yeovil I might have 55 with me and 45 against.
“That five per cent can make the difference. I’ve got total belief in what I want I do, unfortunately it’s taken longer than I would have liked it to.
“The players are in on it, I’m definitely up for it and, touch wood, the chairman is too, because he could enjoy his Sunday as well.
“It’s been too long not to have won a game of football and I’m glad it’s done now. The players should kick on now and get belief from that.
“We’ve won one game and there are lots of points to be played for.
“If we win our games that will be enough points to get us where we want to be at the end of the season.”
Saturday’s win was enough to lift Gillingham above Crewe in League 1 and out of the relegation zone.
