Danny Hollands impressed on his first start for the Gills.
He played in the centre of a trio of midfielders for Gillingham against Leyton Orient on Tuesday night.
"That was his first start for over a month and it was good to see him,” said Gills boss Martin Allen.
"He is a good player, he knows the game and has had promotions at this level.
"He can also chip in with a goal here and there.
"He has a one-in-five ratio of goals to games played and is a good signing.”
Hollands’ last start came for Charlton in their 4-0 Capital One Cup success over Oxford on August 6.
He made his Gills debut last weekend, as a second-half substitute against Bristol City.
