Bury v Gillingham
Gillingham manager Mark Stimson doesn’t want a repeat of last season’s premature FA Cup exit when his side travel to play Bury in the first round on Saturday.
The Gills crashed out at the same stage last season after suffering a 2-1 defeat at Barnet.
It was one of Stimson’s first games in charge and afterwards the Gills boss launched a scathing attack on his players.
Stimson said: "The Barnet game was probably the worst performance since I’ve been here.
"It was a bad day and we certainly don’t want to perform like that this weekend. I don’t think we will because the squad of players we’ve got now are a different type.
"I’m sure they, like me, will be hoping we can get through the next couple of rounds and draw the likes of Manchester United or Liverpool away."
Stimson has his sights set on drawing one of the top teams in the latter stages, but Gillingham must first get past the Shakers.
"Bury have had a couple of indifferent results lately," said Stimson. "They’ve got a good striker in Andy Bishop, who we enquired about last year.
"He stayed with the club and has been scoring goals. We’ve got to be aware of him because he’s a decent player.
"It’ll be a tough place to go. They are well organised and the rest of their players are very workmanlike."
