Gills boss still keen to trim squad

Gillingham remain keen to off-load a number of players in a bid to free up the wage bill.

Manager Mark Stimson wants a number of young players to taste first team action and is also waiting on interest in unwanted midfielder Stuart Thurgood.

Stimson said: “Young lads like Andy Pugh, Charlie Howard, Rory Hill and Tayler Thomas can go and get some experience that will obviously be good for them and help us too.

“We’ve only got one or two reserve team games in the next month. If they can go into Conference South or below that and get four or five games it’s only going to help them. It will also help us and balance the finances.”

Stuart Thurgood remains a Gills player after interest from both Dagenham and Grays has subsided.

“It’s gone a bit stale,” admitted Stimson. “Dagenham obviously did fantastic at the weekend so they’ve gone quiet and I haven’t heard anything from Grays."
