Gillingham manager Mark Stimson has defended his side’s tactics after facing criticism from his opposite number at Luton on Tuesday night.
Luton boss Mick Harford accused the Gills of time wasting early on in the game at Kenilworth Road and was also critical of the way Gillingham played.
Harford said: “In all my life I have never seen a team run a clock down like they did.
“It was bizarre considering that they are a top six side.”
Stimson hit back and said: “Mick has a right to his opinion but I’ve never done that in my career and I wouldn’t know how to do it.
“The best way to stop that is for Luton to employ some ballboys because when the ball went out of play Simon Royce had to run 50 yards to collect it. Why has my goalie got to go and run after it?
“I’m sure they have a school of excellence who represent Luton at a younger age would love to be ballboys - just stick a few of those around the ground.”
In the final minute of the game Gillingham striker Simeon Jackson was booked after referee Dean Whitehouse felt he was taking to long to walk off the field after being substituted.
Harford also felt his side were the only team who wanted to win.
“We created chance after chance and were the only team that tried to win the game.”
Stimson was delighted to get the point, but insisted they were going for three.
He said: “I always look for three points and if you don’t get three you look for the next best.”
