GILLINGHAM will look to reach the magical 50-point mark tomorrow night after notching their third consecutive home win against Brighton on Saturday.
It was a tough afternoon for Andy Hessenthaler’s side against the struggling Seagulls, made worse by the loss of Mamady Sidibe through injury.
He said: “It was a tough afternoon but performance effort-wise was outstanding.
“Brighton came and frustrated us and we were sloppy at times defensively and we had to dig in, but the goal in the first minute of the second-half helped us.”
He added: “We had to juggle things around early on when Mama came off and that didn’t help us but we gambled on Tommy Johnson and it worked. In the end it was a good three points and another clean sheet.
“We are now two points off my first target of the season which was to get to 50 points. We have got there nice and early and now we play Nottingham Forest.
“It will be a tough game but they will try to come and play football and we are looking forward to it.
“Brighton worked hard and were a credit to Steve Coppell. Paul Shaw’s goal came at just the right time and that proved the turning point and we got confidence from that and went on and won.”
Sidibe could be out for two to three weeks with a hamstring injury but Paul Smith should be fit after picking up a similar strain just before the break. He played until 10 minues before the end and should be fine to face Notts Forest.
Former Gills star Robert Taylor was on the bench for Scunthorpe on Saturday after joining the Iron on a non-contact basis.
Another former Gills player on the move is Jimmy Corbett. He joined Darlington on a month’s loan from Blackburn Rovers and was on the bench for the derby game against Hartlepool.
