ASSISTANT manager Mick Docherty and first team coach Iffy Onuora will pick the Gillingham team to face Brighton at Priestfield on Saturday.
Chairman Paul Scally indicated earlier in the week that he would be involved in the team selection process but Docherty says the final decision lies with him and Onuora.
He said: "The chairman runs the club and is entitled, quite rightly, to give his opinion. We bounce things back, he has thoughts on this and that and we have said ‘I would not do that, I would do this’, but at the end of the day, Iffy and I are going to pick the team because that is why he employed us."
Speculation over who will take over from Ronnie Jepson since his departure on Sunday has been rife but Docherty says what happens this weekend is more important at the moment than finding a successor.
He said: "The chairman said to Iffy and me earlier in the week, ‘I just want you to knuckle down and get the job done this week and then we will review the position after Saturday’."
