GILLINGHAM paid out a total of £28,750 in players’ agents fees for the period January 1 this year to June 30.
This involved 14 transactions comprising six new registrations, two updated contracts, including Danny Spiller’s, and six loans.
Gillingham’s total is dwarfed by the £279,000 paid out to agents by Derby, which is the highest in Division 1, followed by the £243,500 given over by West Ham.
Champions Norwich parted with £92,442 in agents fees while promoted Crystal Palace, Crewe, Preston, Sunderland, Watford and Wimbledon did not pay to use the services of licenced agents.
Division 1 clubs committed to spend a total of £1,131,189 on agents’ fees during the period.
There were 301 player transactions in the section of which 61 (20 per cent) involved the use of agents.
Publication of agents fees was agreed at an extraordinary general meeting of member clubs in September last year and is aimed at introducing greater transparency in the payment of agents.
The new regulation came into effect on January 1, 2004. Premier League clubs have yet to follow suit.
