Huddersfield 1 Gillingham 3
GILLINGHAM swept to a 3-1 victory against Huddersfield in League 1 at the Galpharm Stadium on Saturday.
Mark Stimson, the Gillingham manager, was delighted to see his side continue to put their past nightmares on the road behind them.
He said: ?We came up against a good Huddersfield side who went into this match off the back of beating a Premiership side.
?The boys showed great effort and desire and also quality and on a difficult surface. We came away truly winners.?
The only sour point for the Gills was Adam Miller?s last minute sending off and Stimson admitted he?ll be missed.
?It?s disappointing for us but the lad is distraught because he doesn?t like to miss football matches,? he said.
?He?ll face a three game ban and that could be a big loss to us.?
The home side went ahead after 31 minutes when a mistake by Simon King led to Chris Brandon striking a shot into the top right of the goal from six yards out.
It looked as though the Gills would be behind at half-time before Adam Miller found Mulligan and he rounded the keeper before tucking the ball into the net from 12 yards.
Gillingham went ahead when Mulligan scored a penalty on 78 minutes after Nathan Clarke brought down Miller in the box.
Delroy Facey then put the result beyond doubt when he scored with a left-footed shot with nine minutes left.
Miller was dismissed for a late challenge in the closing stages of the game.
