Newly installed club captain Mark Bentley insists Gillingham will be thinking of nothing but promotion next season.

After several years of struggle Bentley is now confident the team can begin to turn the corner and bounce back in style.

“We’re looking for promotion and nothing but promotion,” he said.

“Last year is now forgotten. We could have moped around but we came in early and we’re going to show people that we are good enough and we’re certainly going for promotion.

“It might have done us a bit of a favour dropping down a level and starting again. If you look at sides like Carlisle and Doncaster they dropped down but look at them now.”

Team-mate Adam Miller is feeling just as confident.

“I don’t think there’s anything in the league for us to worry about,” said Miller.

“The gaffer has implemented what he wants in the team, which is fitness and the confidence to get on the ball and pass and it’s shaping up to be a good season. I can’t see why we can’t be up there.”
