Gills get Villa training help

Gillingham are preparing for Tuesday's FA Cup second round replay against Stockport at Aston Villa’s training ground.

The Gills will face the West Midlands club in the third round if they beat League 1 side Stockport at Edgeley Park.

Manager Mark Stimson said: “We’re one game away from a game that the players will probably remember for the rest of their lives.

“It should be great for the players. The condition of the training pitch will be spot-on. If we were to go to a local park or something similar, it might be a bit heavy with the weather we have got at the moment.

“We won’t do an awful lot of training. We’ll be walking through a few things and making sure we save all our energy.”

The Gills boss is delighted that his side have the chance to prepare at Villa’s training ground.

He added: “If you want to go through you’ve got to give yourselves the best chance.

“We’ll use the facilities in the afternoon then stay over before doing a little bit more training on Tuesday.

“We’ll then go to Stockport and give it our best shot. That’s all I can ask of the players. Give everything you’ve got, because if you do get through then it’s a great new year to look forward to.”
