RICHARD HILL, Gillingham's assistant manager, has hinted that the club's interest in top transfer target Damien Hertog is cooling.
Hill made a second trip to Holland on Friday to watch the Dutch midfielder but returned less than impressed.
"I didn't think he did as well as I would have liked and it's fair to say that I wasn't completely impressed," said Hill.
"Though I have had two looks, the final say so has got to come from the boss. Hertog is still a good player but at the moment we don't want to say too much.
"I'm bound to say though that we're coping admirably with the players we already have in that department."
Player-manager Andy Hessenthaler may use the free weekend to run a personal check on Hertog, depending on the Dutch fixtures.
Gillingham were alerted when they thought Hertog would be available on a free transfer following the relegation of his club RBC Roosendal to Divison 2. The player mistakenly believed a clause had been inserted in his contract allowing him to move for free in the event of them going down.
