TAKE it or leave it was the message from Gillingham manager Mark Stimson as he bids to add Rushden striker Simeon Jackson to his squad.
The Gills have made an offer for the 20-year-old, who has hit 18 goals this season, but Stimson insists he won’t be paying silly money.
“We’ve had a bid put on the table since the window opened and we’re just waiting to hear what the outcome is,” he said.
“We keep getting calls saying they want more money but we’ve told them we haven’t got more money. That’s the bid.
“They’re probably thinking if we lose another game we’ll go mad and offer a little bit more but you have a budget to play with. It’s like shopping at Harrods with Asda money. That’s something we have to deal with.”
Stimson is hoping to add Jackson and one more striker to his squad before Thursday night's transfer deadline.
“Two strikers - that’s what we’ll be chasing and hopefully we can get that,” he said. “If we do I’m convinced results will turn around.”
Stimson, however, has ruled out a move for his former Stevenage striker Steve Morison.
He said: “Although he scored for me at that level and was very good, it’s about bringing players in who I think can play this level.”
