GILLINGHAM goalkeeper Bertrand Bossu had his three-month loan at Torquay cut short following allegations of a cartilage problem in his left knee.
The Frenchman returned to Priestfield having played just two League games for Torquay against Bristol City and Hull. They drew 1-1 with City and lost 3-0 to Hull.
Doubts over Bossu's fitness were raised after the draw with City when he was unable to take place kicks and defender Steve Wood was forced to deputise.
Torquay's former England physiotherapist Norman Medhurst urged Bossu to undergo a scan following the defeat by Hull amid fears that he had sustained cartilage damage.
When Bossu departed Plainmoor, he described his reasons for leaving as "personal". He has since been allowed to return to France following a family bereavement.
He made four appearances on loan at Torquay, two in pre-season friendlies.
Gillingham chairman Paul Scally retorted: "The personal reasons given are complete rubbish. They are claiming the player was injured when he went there, but that's nonsense.
“The matter will be dealt with by the Football League and I can only add that we will never do business again with Torquay."
