Flynn beat the Rotherham offside trap to latch onto Paul Smith’s superb through pass and he kept his nerve to chip the ball over the advancing keeper.

Darius Henderson and Mamady Sidibe have caused the home defence all kinds of problems.

Sidibe had two good chances to notch his first goal of the season. First, the keeper did well to smother at his feet and then he sent a shot just wide after a mazy run.

Henderson missed a glorious opportunity to double Gillingham’s lead just before half-time after a superb break by substitute Matt Jarvis.

Rotherham have offered little so far and look like a side resigned to relegation.
